Mission
Statement
Good
Shepherd Services is a voluntary organisation responding
to the needs of girls, women and children who are homeless
or at risk of becoming homeless. Believing in the dignity
of each person, we strive to provide quality care tailored
to meet the needs of individuals and families. This is done
in a variety of ways.
Shelter
Recognising
that the most basic need is one of shelter, we provide accommodation
and support for homeless girls, women and children in our
residential services.
Family
Support
We provide
family support by helping mothers to care for their children
and prepare them for independent living. This is done in
a supportive and healing environment, which fosters growth
and self confidence. Through the various programmes, the
services seek to enhance self image and motivation by providing
opportunities for promoting personal worth and a realistic
attitude towards work and life.
Education
and Training
Education
and training are central to all the activities of the services.
The primary aim is the personal development and self confidence
of the people in our care.
Social
Justice
We are
committed to identifying and addressing the root causes
of homelessness and social exclusion.
We work
in collaboration with other agancies, both statutory and
voluntary.
History
Good
Shepherd Services is a non-profit organisation which began
in 1972 under the direction of the Good Shepherd Sisters.
Ethos
The
ethos of Good Shepherd Services is founded on the philosophy
of the Good Shepherd Sisters, Sr. Mary Euphrasia. This philosophy
is one which believes that each one is precious in the eyes
of God, and as such is to be respected and valued. The fundamental
belief is in the uniqueness and dignity of each person.
In our
Services we work to create nurturing environments where
people can reach their full potential.
